What a Knight!

On Oct. 29, Armadillo Authors Society member N.J. Knight launched her YA debut novel, Hameln, to a packed crowd of friends, family, literary supporters and fellow armadillos at local bookstore treasure, Birdhouse Books.

Hameln is a delightful historical fantasy retelling of the Pied Piper from the perspective of the town's teens. It’s packed with secrets, murder, rats, and intrigue (and more rats)! And a wandering minstrel with a magic flute might be the answer to all of their problems.

Erin Cotter, author of A Traitorous Heart, led a Q&A discussion on Knight’s inspiration, how this story came to be, and—naturally—rats!

Hameln is available in hardback, paperback and e-book from Amazon, Bookshop.org and may be ordered wherever books are sold. Request it at your library or order it from your favorite local bookstore!

What early reviews are saying…

"Deliciously dark mystery, adventure, and a dash of romance, Knight's story takes readers into a fairytale world that is far more Brothers Grimm than Disney. Her young protagonists-a princess who longs to make a difference, a blacksmith struggling to protect her family, and a handsome bard who holds the secrets of his past and purpose close-join an ensemble cast of allies to solve an uncanny murder that unleashes a plague of rats in their town. As the darkness builds and spreads, the teens uncover a deadly secret that threatens their entire land. Knight delivers a high-stakes tale with compelling heroes and chilling villains in this original Pied Piper retelling." Kara Lenore, author of Beneath a Sun Deprived Sky
